Earth-friendly through all of our corporate activities

At Calpis, everyone is committed to the environmental activities

Calpis draws upon the blessings of nature to contribute to the health of body and mind. We have been exploring the healthful bounty of the global environment and conducting our corporate activities through a symbiotic relationship with the earth.
Calpis acquired an international standard, ISO 14001 certification, for its environmental management system as a corporate to drive the environment activities by entire Calpis group.
Our headquarters have adopted a complete electrified system that is eco-friendly. Our initiatives for reducing the burden on the environment include energy-saving photovoltaic generation and resourcesconserving rainwater recycling system.
ECOMARU?Mascot to promote environmental activities for the Calpis Group Our Plants shifted from the use of heavy oil to natural gas in 2006 to reduce CO2 emissions and conserve energy. Our Plants have already achieved 100% waste recycling and are working to redevelop the wastes as valuable resources. For example, the Gunma Plant has introduced equipment for drying sludge generated from wastewater treatment to produce fertilizer.
We also place strong emphasis on the environment in product development, including such factors as reducing the weight of containers and packages and using materials with less environmental load.

Environmental activities unique to our company is created by each of our colleagues

The major feature of our environmental activities is that every member of the company is participating in the actions. A person to drive ISO14001 initiative is assigned in each section and various activities are taking place based on the proposal from our employees.
For example, as an initiative to preserve animal diversity, our factory workers created a biotope (a space where several wild animals live together) in the Plant and raising wild Japanese killifish and pickerelweed that are endangered species. Also, we are offering the killifishes grown at the Plant to the local residents.
The offices including the headquarters and group companies all over Japan enthusiastically participate in community activities, such as water sprinkling in summer and community clean-ups.
The information on environment activities is shared with the colleagues by a monthly bulletin called “Green Letter” issued by ISO Secretariat. “Environmental slogans” of the month created by our employees enlighten us further.
