Safety and Reliability

Our fundamental responsibility as a food manufacturer

Thorough quality management from product development and ingredient selection to shipment

Our manufacturing system is based on an ISO 9001-certified quality management system that adopts the perspective of customers and an HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) quality assurance system for food safety control.
At each phase of product development, we conduct examinations and reviews for safety, legal compliance, and fair labeling assessment.
We exercise control over materials that have a significant impact on product safety through the following three steps: 1. assessment of raw material safety prior to product reviews to select safe, high-quality ingredients; 2. selection of suppliers according to our supplier selection criteria; and 3. verifying safety and legal compliance by sampling purchased materials and voluntarily inspecting for agricultural chemicals, heavy metals, and microorganisms.
In addition, we are working to strengthen our crisis management system through a traceability system that can rapidly identify product delivery channels right up to the primary destination after shipment from the factory.

Production site safety and quality control

All production activities are rooted in stringent quality and sanitation control. In the manufacture of CALPIS, for example, all processes—from receiving raw materials to fermentation, maturation, filling, and packaging—are computer controlled. Calpis monitors critical control points through sophisticated quality control and shipping inspections. These activities ensure products to satisfy our customers.
The filling process, especially, is rigidly sanitation-controlled, from main systems and equipment to scrub-room facilities to advanced fabrics for clean-room clothing.

Efforts to ensure quality

To proactively prevent exposing customers to health hazards and to minimize the effects of any hazardous situations, feedback and information from customers and business partners (distributors) are systematically gathered and transferred daily to the related departments to maintain product quality across the company. To address any possible risk of a problem escalating into a major issue, we maintain an internal system in which an interdepartmental quality team assesses the situation based on an investigation of the facts. Prompt action is then taken under the leadership of the president. Delivering products that can be purchased with a sense of reliability is always our top priority.
